Court Case Management Program

A provincial court was faced with developing the specifications for extensive new technology to assist with the court case management process. The court undertook this major project using the Graham method, which identified efficiencies immediately and laid the groundwork for the adoption of the new technologies.

First, a team was trained. Then data was collected and process maps were drawn which provided the fresh perspective needed for analysis. Analysis was completed by a team of the people who actually do the work, including judges, prosecutors, clerks and managers. This high-powered team met around the process maps for seven days and developed 66 recommendations. The resulting recommendations were presented to the Deputy Chief Judge and his management team for decisions. This major project was carried out, including the approval of 64 of the recommendations, in a mere five weeks!
