Crown Prosecutions
The prosecutions office in a major city needed to free up staff positions to be redeployed to another initiative, and the Ben Graham Group was called in to help. First, a team was trained in the Ben Graham methodology. Next, data was collected and process charts were drawn; the charts provided the fresh perspective needed for analysis. Analysis was completed by a team of people - crown prosecutors, clerks and paralegals - who actually do the work in the office.
The resulting recommendations were presented to the Assistant Deputy Minister and her management team, for decisions, immediately at the conclusion of analysis. All 152 were approved. The entire project from the start of data collection through to approved recommendations was completed in a mere seven weeks, and within eight months approximately 70% of the recommendations had been implemented.
Two staff positions were ultimately freed to be redeployed to the new initiative, and these recommendations were estimated to save $600,000 annually.
